USATF South Carolina is sad to announce the passing of one of our Association Officials, Ellerbe Hightower. Ellerbe will not only be missed by his family but by all of us at USATF South Carolina –athletes of all ages, coaches and fellow officials. The world of track & field has lost a wonderful supporter of the sport.

Ellerbe Hightower III, 68, of 125 Greene St., Santee, died suddenly June 7, 2015, at his home. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Jericho United Methodist Church, Cameron, with the Rev. Roger Goupil officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Ardis, Jim Bullock, Albert Dukes, Jason Dukes, Phil Kennerly, Billy Peagler, Robert Sharpe and Matthew Romaine. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Jericho United Methodist Church. Mr. Hightower was born May 7, 1947, in Denmark, a son of the late Mac Proveaux and Mrs. Betty Zorn Proveaux. Mr. Hightower was retired from the Fairfield County Schools, where he was a teacher and coach. After retirement, he remained active as a high school and collegiate official in track and field. He served his church as secretary/treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher of the Men's Bible Class. Survivors include his wife, Linda Bickley Hightower of the home; a son, Paul Bickley Hightower and wife, Whitney, Ladson; a daughter, Sonya Hightower-Hobby and husband, Gerald Hobby, Branchville; and grandchildren, Austin, Kaye-Marie and Maci Hobby, all of Branchville. Visitation will be held Monday, June 8, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral home. Memorials may be made to Jericho United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 337, Cameron SC 29030

The USATF-SC Association 3,000 meter racewalk track championship and developmental 1500 meter track racewalk took place at Furman University's track on Saturday, May 30. Greenville Track Club graciously allowed the inclusion of these races as part of their annual Open and Masters Classic Track and Field meet. READ COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE
