A chilly morning with bright sunlight provided good racing conditions for the 2014 USATF-SC association One Hour Racewalk Championship at Furman University's track on November 15. In this event, racewalking athletes compete on a track to try to cover as great a distance as possible in 60 minutes. During the last five minutes, they are given a marker with their race number, and are required to drop this when an air horn indicates time has expired.
Jonathan Hallman (21, Liberty SC) showed excellent form and fitness, taking control of the race from the gun. His winning distance of 13,125 Meters or 8.16 miles currently ranks him number one in the US for the year in this event. Jon is preparing for the 2015 Pan-Am Cup trials at 20 Km and hopes to make the US team to compete in Chile next May.
